Free strength and balance activity sessions for unpaid carers
Free strength and balance activity sessions for unpaid carers of all physical abilities are starting in Wirral in September (e.g. chair chair-based activities, Yoga, Pilates, body weight exercises, exercises with weights etc.). Please can you click the link to tell WIRED about what sessions would work best for you, thanks – http://bit.ly/3GD2zX8”
The Active You Project is focused on improving strength and balance amongst people aged 40+ in order to reduce falls and other ill health that can be prevented through people maintaining good levels of strength and balance as they get older.
People with caring responsibilities (unpaid carers) are at higher risk of injury due to falling over or as a result of heavy lifting within their caring role. The impact of this can often mean that the carer is no longer able to carry on with their caring responsibilities for a period of time or, in some cases, ever again.
Additionally, we know that physical ill health often leads on to mental ill health and then a spiral into a prolonged episode of physical and mental ill-health, which in some cases continues throughout the individual’s whole life.
It is exactly this that we are looking to prevent through the following early intervention and prevention activities;
- Increasing awareness of the benefits of undertaking strength and balance activities amongst carers
- Offering a wide range of group activity sessions for all abilities, focusing on strength and balance, ranging from chair-based exercises within a local community centre to more advanced sessions delivered in Wirral Council leisure facilities.
- Offering individual strength and balance activity plans for carers who want to/or need to exercise at home, these plans will cater for all abilities
