Wirral based NMABs IV Clinic

Wirral based NMABs IV Clinic situated in Fender Way Health Centre.

A new service being rolled out across the country. The aim is to provide the administration of sotrovimab IV Infusion for vulnerable, non-hospitalised patients who have been PCR tested and confirmed to have covid-19. 

The aim of the treatment is to prevent likelihood of hospitalization due to covid-19 symptoms. The following criteria determines whether patients are to be considered at high risk of admission following positive PCR result:

• Down Syndrome
• Solid Cancer
• Haematological malignancy
• Sickle Cell Disease
• Renal Disease
• Immune-mediated inflammatory disorder
• HIV/AIDS
• Liver Disease
• Primary Immune Deficiency
• Solid Organ Transplant Recipients
• Rare Neurological conditions – Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Huntingtons Disease

If you have positive PCR test result and meet any one of the above criteria, you would be deemed eligible for Sotrovimab treatment.

Sotrovimab treatment is only recommended if given to the patient within 5 days of symptom onset or positive PCR result. If patient is on day 6 or 7 of symptoms, then they can still receive treatment however this will need to be prescribed off license and will need to therefore be reviewed by the prescriber.

Referral process for patients to receive this process is as follows:

• Patient receives positive PCR test result
• Patient to contact 111
• Patient to inform 111 that they have one of the above medical conditions and to ask for a referral for the NMABs IV treatment.
• Health care professional (111) will then refer patient through to Mersey care
• Mersey care will triage patient and deem their eligibility for treatment.
• If patient meets criteria, Mersey care will gain patient consent and arrange prescription for the treatment from consultant or clinical pharmacist.
• Referral and prescription will then be emailed through to Wirral NMABS IV clinic and an appointment will be made as soon as all information is received and has been reviewed by the NMABs team.
• Patient will then be contacted by the NMABs team to arrange a time for them to come into the clinic for treatment.
• Patient will need to attend clinic for cannulation and administration of IV sotrovimab.
• Following appointment, a pulse oximeter will be provided by telehealth or given to the patient in the NMABs clinic, and they will be monitored for covid-19 symptoms via the telehealth team.

In instances where it has not been possible to cannulate the patient – there is an alternative oral treatment which can be prescribed; however, this is not as effective as the intravenous treatment and is contraindicated for some patients depending on their under lying condition and the medications they already take
